Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to common questions about Scaledger's outsourced bookkeeping and accounting services for UK businesses.
1. What is outsourced bookkeeping?
Outsourced bookkeeping means working with an external finance team to manage some or all of your day-to-day bookkeeping and finance operations. Scaledger supports UK businesses with structured bookkeeping, reconciliations, accounts payable and receivable, management reporting, VAT support and other finance processes.
2. Does Scaledger provide bookkeeping services for UK businesses?
Yes. Scaledger provides offshore bookkeeping and finance operations support for UK businesses. We work as an extension of your team, helping maintain accurate financial records and structured finance processes.
3. What bookkeeping services does Scaledger provide?
Our services include bookkeeping and accounting support, bank reconciliations, accounts payable, accounts receivable, management accounts, VAT support, payroll and PAYE support, year-end accounts support and wider finance operations.
4. Which accounting software does Scaledger work with?
We work with commonly used cloud accounting and finance tools, including Xero, QuickBooks, Sage and Microsoft Excel. Our workflows can be adapted to your existing systems and processes.
5. Can I outsource only part of my bookkeeping?
Yes. You do not have to outsource your entire finance function. Scaledger can support specific areas such as bank reconciliations, accounts payable, accounts receivable, bookkeeping, month-end processes or management reporting, depending on your requirements.
6. Is offshore bookkeeping suitable for a UK business?
Yes. An offshore finance team can work effectively with UK businesses when supported by clear processes, secure systems, defined responsibilities and regular communication. Scaledger is designed to operate as an extension of your existing team while helping reduce finance workload and operational overhead.
7. How does Scaledger keep my financial data secure?
Access is limited to the people and systems needed to deliver the agreed work. We use controlled access, documented workflows, review checkpoints and secure cloud collaboration. Approvals and payment authority remain with you. Controls are process-based; we do not claim certifications we do not hold.
8. How does the Scaledger onboarding process work?
We start with a discovery conversation to understand your business, accounting systems, existing processes and requirements. We then agree the scope and responsibilities, securely organise access and documentation, review the opening position and move your finance processes into a structured recurring workflow. See how onboarding works.
9. How often will my books be updated?
The processing rhythm is agreed during onboarding. Depending on transaction volume and reporting needs, bookkeeping can be maintained daily, weekly or monthly, with reconciliations and month-end work completed to a defined timetable.
10. Can Scaledger work alongside my existing accountant or finance team?
Yes. Scaledger is designed to work as an extension of your existing accountant or in-house team. We maintain records, reconciliations and reporting so your accountant can focus on advice, tax and year-end sign-off rather than day-to-day processing.
11. Can Scaledger help with VAT and HMRC-related processes?
Yes. We can support VAT bookkeeping, VAT reconciliation and VAT return preparation from up-to-date records. We can also help organise information needed for HMRC-related processes. We do not act as your tax agent or provide regulated tax advice; filings and advice remain with you or your accountant.
12. Does Scaledger provide management accounts?
Yes. We prepare monthly management accounts from reconciled books, typically including a profit and loss, balance sheet and supporting schedules, delivered to an agreed timetable.
13. How much does outsourced bookkeeping cost?
The cost depends on factors such as transaction volume, number of entities, accounting software, required services, reporting requirements and the level of finance support needed. Scaledger provides a tailored scope based on your business requirements rather than applying a one-size-fits-all package.
14. How do I get started with Scaledger?
Start with a discovery conversation so we can understand your systems, processes and the support you need. From there we agree scope, complete secure onboarding and move into a recurring finance workflow.
